Dear humans,
Coffee might be the only thing keeping the female trudging along at this point. License to Kill is out for blood, and it wants the female’s. It might get what it wants at this stage.
In other news, a politician proved to be useful! (We’ll just give you a minute to get over the shock.) The female forgot she needed to renew the car registration. The politician sent out a notice stating they were delaying deadlines by 90 days to help curb the spread of the virus.
The female thus remembered to do her car registration, and it is now a completed task! Hooray!
In other news, the female is getting somewhat close to the end of Grave Humor. Once she’s finished it, it is probable she will take a week off to edit a project for a developmental editing client. She doesn’t take new clients any more, mainly because she’d have to charge several thousand dollars to justify taking the time off from her writing, but the project she’s working on is a lot of fun, so it will be like a little vacation where she works her ass off trying to finish everything in a week.
It’ll be fun. (Mostly.)
Beyond that, she almost choked on her morning medication, there is not enough coffee on this planet to get her through the rest of the day, and she will be listening to Bon Jovi again. Probably the sha-la-la, sha-la-la hey! song again. Either that or Superman Tonight.
For today’s book review, she is going to jump to a different genre for a while. You’ll probably notice some influences on her general writing interests from this, as she loooveeess thrilling things.
Tom Clancy’s The Hunt for Red October really made her interested in writing sneaky little plots with twisty turns and action adventure. You can thank or blame Clancy as you please. She no longer reads the newer Clancy offerings for the most part, mainly because they aren’t written by Clancy and she can really tell. (That said, the one new author that was writing as Clancy does a great job in his series. She really enjoyed several books he wrote as himself.
The female has a first edition signed hardback, and it is one of her prized possessions. She’s still missing a signed copy of Patriot Games, but she has Red Rabbit, Executive Orders, and a few others. (Executive Orders is one of her favorites.)
For pure love of rereading, Patriot Games is her favorite. But The Hunt for Red October will always hold a special place in her heart.
Note: do not ask how many copies of Patriot Games she has destroyed. Once, she was reading it in the car and the entire book literally fell apart in her hands. (The glue on the binding finally gave out, spreading pages all over the front passenger seat.)
The male had a severe what the actual fuck? moment… and the female just shrugged and kept reading, hunting down the appropriate pages as needed.
That was one of the last books she destroyed before the era of the ebook reader began. Now, she can reread and reread and reread without destroying a single book!
This makes her happy.
Have a picture of the female’s workspace when it’s actually clean. Right now, it is not anywhere near clean, and this weekend, she will be forced to clean it. She’s also added washi tape decorations to the end of it, and the whole thing is hugely cluttered. So much clutter. ALL of the clutter.
We aren’t even joking about the clutter, humans.
Filthy pig of a female. Clean up after yourself. No, don’t just sip your coffee and ignore me. Clean your sty!
Hmph. She’s ignoring me, as usual, despite my great wisdom.
Apparently, it is time for her to get back to work.

Personally, it was Red Storm Rising that was my favorite of Clancy’s early books. (Probably because I was stationed in Germany when it came out, and it hit home personally.)
That one is one of my husband’s favorites! <3 It's good. I think one of my favorite scenes from Clancy is actually the pants incident in Red Rabbit. That's just a fun arc.
