The morning Alexa Daegberht’s macaroni and cheese develops sentience, the world changes. She thought escaping poverty and moving up in the world would be the challenge of her life, but the new arrivals, who call themselves the dae, waste no time proving her wrong.
Some claim it’s the rapture of the Christian faith. Some claim the world has been reborn. With millions vanished into thin air, one thing is certain: humanity is in for a fight for survival. There’s only one thing Alexa is certain of.
The dae are here to stay.
This is a republishing of an older work, and it has undergone substantial editing and rewriting, including the addition of new scenes.
Dawn of Dae is now available at the following retailers:
Amazon | Apple Books | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | Google Play
I hope you all enjoy the new edition if you’re re-reading it… and if you’re reading it for the first time, you get a view of how both the Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count) and the Royal States series somewhat came to life. Both series stole from this series when I originally abandoned it.
Welcome back, Alexa!

I read the original Dawn of Dae several years ago, and loved it!!! When I saw a new edition of the book was available I ordered it again. More scenes?! signed up and waited (not patiently) for it to come out. I was not disappointed. Dawn of Dae is how I first became familiar with R.J.Blain’s work. And I still think it is the best of everything she’s done. As soon as the sequel is available to pre order I’ll sign up for that too.

Made myself macaroni and cheese for dinner last night (complete with neon orange powder) in honor of the rebirth of one of my favorite books. Sadly, my dinner neither achieved sentience nor superpowers, but was a tasty accompaniment to reading in my quest to find all the updates in the new version ?

I am still reading — it is hard with a full-time job, trying to write my own stories, learn Spanish and self-care in this dissonant time. But I love how there is more to Colby right from the start — he is a much stronger character. As is all of them I have come across so far. We get a better insight into Alexa’s world as well (I haven’t had much Rob to compare yet). And yes, I have already read the first one at least three times so I am noticing the different impressions I am getting as I read this version (I had to force myself to put it down so I could get my hour of writing in because…I wanted to just keep on reading!)
This is giving me ideas about how to rewrite some of my stories that need a little more depth to them.
