So, moving forward, the Amazon editions (which will be linked to as such on this website) will be blank edges. When the fancy edge versions are done, they’ll be available through bookshop and Barnes & Noble, and I’ll have a page on the website linking to them.
If you purchase through used book markets, what you get is what you get, as I cannot control the used book market. If you want fancy edges, I highly recommend you wait for when I provide links by series.
I am expecting the first batch of fancy edge books to start heading to retail in July, and I’ll be starting with the Magical Romantic Comedy (with a body count) series. Susan Copperfield books will likely be second.
Please note that I am doing this as a labor of love and so that libraries can have access to the books. (Amazon’s distribution to libraries is poor at best.)
No, I will not be doing preorders for these editions of the books. Yes, the hardback editions will have them, and once again, due to pricing, etc, it will be split by Amazon (blank edges) and IngramSpark (fancy edges) and Fancy POD Printer (special edition with fancy edges, possibly sprayed, possibly not, I’ll see when I get to Fancy POD Printer phase, which won’t be until later.)
On audiobooks: Cameron Hill is almost done Partner in Crime, which will be going to proofing stage within the next two weeks. After Partner in Crime, The Trickster King will be recorded. After The Trickster King is finished, he will be working on the Prince of New York.
I do not have a timetable for completion of these projects, so please don’t ask. I won’t be able to give you an answer.
Experimental Voyage is currently being proofed, but i do not have a timetable for completion.
As a reminder, to help cover the high costs of audiobook production, the Patreon Store always gets audiobooks for a few weeks before it heads to a standard retail release. (The Patreon store pays substantially better than elsewhere, which means it takes far fewer sales to help earn back compared to retail.)
I then use the Patreon funds to keep producing audiobooks. (Sirens+ also help contribute to the production costs of audiobooks, and I take a percentage from all Patreon earnings to pay for the Royal States series.)
Once the Royal States series is complete, Cindercorns and Spicy Ponies with Bite will decide which series/world gets Patreon’s love and a guaranteed publication schedule without any worry in the world about its retail performance. (That is why you reliably get Royal States books; Patreon pays for it; while there are gaps, I’m almost always working on a Royal States book in some fashion or another, with a 2-3 month gap between publication of the latest book and me working on the next title in earnest to give my brain a rest. My brain definitely needs rests between same books in series. Royal States just gets the shortest rest I possibly can, and I work on it in the evenings/on the side, which helps.)
For those of you who are waiting for the next assignment, expect it on Friday! (Where you will get to listen to me struggle, struggle, struggle on several elements/assignments and why it sometimes truly DOES take me several years to actually start writing in earnest.)
I have a fuckton of plot kinks to work out, and I’ve been hammering at them on my walks, but I’m not at the “ah-ha, this works” stage yet.
I’m getting there, though.
I hope you all have a great day, and happy reading!
