Sprayed Edges. Foiled Details. Ribbon bookmarks.
We all love the super shiny editions of books in hardback.
They are our shelf princesses.
(Okay, I know plenty of you want nothing to do with them, which is fine. This post isn’t for you, and that’s okay.)
The Cindercorns Trilogy is a hardback only affair that will be coming in two different flavors: chunky money no frills forced edge no foil via Barnes & Noble, with a larger font for easier reading… and sprayed edges, foiled detailed, sold through an online store my personal assistant will be managing. (She will be handling storage, shipping, and handling for all books.) Neither will come with a signed option. (But I will be trying to go to conventions and public-ish places so that people can get theirs signed.)
So, this is a passion project for me, and I’m currently looking at printing 125 copies of the Cindercorns Trilogy. (1 book, all 3 Bailey / Quinn novels.) I may print more depending on the price from the printer. My Spicy Ponies with Bite Patreon subscribers will be given a copy of the book when it’s finished as a thank you for their support! (Any Spicy Pony with Bite who has either done a year long sub or has been a member for at least three months at the time of the book dropping will be eligible. (And all the ones who meet that criteria right now will be eligible. I’m just making sure that people don’t sign up for one month to get a book that costs more than their sub… I’m not into that sort of shenanigans, so boundaries are being established. (And it’s cheaper to just fill out the form and buy the book, so please do that. hahaha))
Anyway, if you like special edition books and you want to be notified, I am gathering responses here.
Please note that while we are absolutely willing to ship to most countries, you need to be prepared to pay the shipping fees! They’re absurd. I am located in the United States, as is my personal assistant.
My personal assistant will be given access to your email address, and it will only be used to email you and ask if you are interested in purchasing a special edition book.
No, I will not be doing a kickstarter. The only reason this is happening is because I’m spending my own out-of-pocket money on something I want for myself, my personal assistant agreed to sell the books on my behalf for a fair cut of the profits, and it’s fun, I want to do it… without the parts that make me go to a corner and sob.
There will be no more kickstarters for me.
But there will be special edition hardbacks that are limited edition with a very small number of copies. They are not numbered, but there are, unless the price comes back a LOT lower than anticipated, only going to be 125 of them made.
I am expecting to charge $125 a copy plus shipping and handling fees (which my personal assistant will charge at time of order.) This might change if the books cost more to print than expected, but it might go lower if they’re much cheaper to print than expected. (So far, it’s costing more than expected, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it bumps up to $150 a copy. We’ll see. I’m talking to printers now.)
Anyway, I hope this bit of news makes some of you happy.
The cover is custom illustrations by Rebecca Frank, by the way. Yes, there are cindercorns on the front and the back.
There will also be custom chapter headings and other wonderful things hidden inside.
Note: if more than 110 or so people sign up to have notifications of R.J. Blain books, we may do a short preorder for the Cindercorn Trilogy to make certain everyone who wants a copy can have it. But for the moment, 125 is the most I can afford to print out of pocket, so that’s what I’m having printed.
Another print run might be possible once they sell out, but honestly, unless they sell out in a hurry, that’s probably not happening.
And yes… one of the books will be mine. Because I want my shelf princess.
