Greetings, folks.
It has come to my attention there is something I need to address (as I don’t check reviews because they aren’t for me, they’re for other customers…) regarding some content within some reviews.
I strongly dislike anything political in my writing platform, but I need to address this.
Dear people who are claiming I am showcasing Democrats OR Republicans in the Vigilante Magical Librarians Series:
You are all wrong.
All of you. The fact you are trying to associate me, as the author, with one or the other party, is evidence that you do not understand the point of the series.
When I made the Vigilante Magical Librarians series, I took a list of Democratic Ideals and Republican Ideals, and I took some Independent (and etc) Ideals and picked one from each category. I then went extremist with each one of these ideals until the “present” in the series.
If you think that “your” party is the “Right” party, you are not paying attention to the series nor do you know as much about politics as you think you do.
When I plotted the series, the whole point was that both sides were equally wrong and positioned the entirety of the country where the Federal government rules without checks and balances intact within the system.
The upper politicians rule, and that is it, that is all. Politics is a clever dance of these sides making certain the people are sufficiently divided so that they can continue to rule how they wish to.
It is the exact opposite of what it means for a country to be a democracy (or in this case, a representative democracy).
So, as a reminder, my politics have nothing to do with the writing of this book. If you even attempt to discern what my personal politics are, you are wrong.
Please stop. Please just stop.
If you assigned blame to any one political party, you are wrong and have missed the entire point of the series.
My personal politics make zero difference for your enjoyment of a book written purely for entertainment. Are there lessons to be learned in some of my books? Absolutely. But it boils down to shit like “be kind to one another”, “be kind to children”, and “be kind to animals.”
But please just stop.
I do not shove my personal beliefs and politics down your throat because I am not here to force you to share my personal beliefs or politics.
My politics are not your problem.
Your politics are not my problem.
I am an author, and I write books about subjects that are interesting to me. I have slapped at every political party practicing in the United States (and in some countries abroad, too.) That means exactly nothing. Because it’s fiction.
So, that’s it, that’s all.
But if you have blinded yourself to the point you can’t see when a satire series (because yes, Vigilante Magical Librarians is one part satire, one part dystopian, one part political thriller) is taking aim at all sides of the aisle… perhaps it’s time to have a think.
Because I went after everybody equally.
If you missed that point, I recommend you start re-reading with Booked for Murder and write down each and every talking point and transpose with modern politics (dated 2015-2022 roughly), you might start understanding that the series is a big slap at the entirety of the system rather than one party.
Because the Vigilante Magical Librarians series isn’t about one party winning and never was.
The takeaway is this: please just stop with trying to assign my political beliefs to me based on my books. That’s not how this works.
I do not write NON-fiction.
I write fiction.
I made it all up. It’s NOT REAL.
Honestly? I only considered that for a moment or two. You’ve not done that in your other books that I’ve read, so it made zero sense that you would in this series. Glad you clarified it for those readers who are over-thinking it.
How sad that you are required to remind readers that you write fiction. You make it up. And do an excellent job too.
I respect your privacy and the thinking you have shared about the series as satire.
Over many years, I have referred to myself as a radical librarian and I would like to find out how this librarian’s story ends. I have subscribed this in hopes that you will finish the series.

I could or agree more! Fiction people. Read it and if you don’t like it, don’t buy the next book. Don’t go away mad, just go to the next book I. Your TBR and try something else.

As someone who remembers the fights from 50 years ago, I agree that ALL parties are in it for themselves. I greatly appreciate your balanced, honest approach to your FICTION. I have it ALL and look forward to more.
I totally agree with everything that you said. I never saw any political party of ours. Those people are nutters. There are so many crazy people right now it’s disgusting. I love the series. Just don’t understand where people are coming from these days

sarc/off: I’m always baffled by readers ascribing an authors actual beliefs from their writing. Politics, religion, Area 51 (okay, the snark isn’t entirely off); fiction is fiction.
And, yeah; fiction can be written to mimic reality. If it’s close and constantly obvious in intent an inference can be made. But with magical vigilante librarians? It requires a very limited contact with objective reality to pull that off.
Unfortunately, we are all guilty of some degree of arrogance when we (read, watch, listen, etc) anything and usually find a point of view to support our own – be it political, religious, marital or “whatever”. Because I “TRY” to be open-minded and accepting of other people’s choices, I usually find the satirical aspects of your stories and appreciation them. I admire your ability to be even-handed in your assignment of “bad behaviour” across ages, genders, and affiliations. This is the single most prevalent aspect I have found in all your writing – in the Magical Rom-Coms, Satan is a force for “good” and arch-angels are “assholes”; you utilize under-age marriage as a foundation for the Royal States series, etc. You have an amazing ability to take less desirable aspects of a society or person and use them as lenses for your readers. Thank you for this. We can only hope that, in some way, this can lead to greater tolerance of each person’s differences and a desire to change intolerant systems.

How can people of any persuasion may your books about politics. They are fun to read and not political treatise. People who can’t enjoy reading should stop, because to them everything is political.
It really just read to me like what happens when people get their hands on power with no checks on their behavior. Which can happen with any sort of power, on any “side” of the issues. Probably is hitting a bit close to home for fellow US people who forget that we the people are the biggest part of the checks and balances on our politicians, and might have to actually do some work to hold ALL of them more accountable than we have been.
I did not take it for or against any one political party. I did take it as a general condemnation of all political parties and people who have been in power way too long. I LOVE that series and that the librarians are the heroes of the day Take a deep breath and put all those reviews on the fire. Obviously they do not know you or only read the blurbs!

I like this series I’ll definitely buy the next one. Glad I was right that it’s satire lol I’m not to bright so I described them to my husband and said maybe satire and he agreed. In any case it’s not MY reality so I’m happy to make the dive. Just like reading about sexy aliens or something scary hood like. Can it happen? Maybe but again not my reality. I read to escape my reality and your books provide an excellent couple hours of escapism. Thank you!
I think it’s crazy everyone is so divided now. It’s like one can’t even like some points from one party, and other points from the other, with a dash of other parties thrown in. NO, you’re either one of us, or your one of THEM. I remember when I was a kid, in the 60’s, our very liberal neighbors used to come up and have coffee and discussions with my very conservative parents. As a kid, I loved to listen to them debate. I doubt that would happen today. I also think it’s weird you even had to address this. Sorry.
I genuinely don’t give a flying fuck about the politics of my readership, but I absolutely put my foot down at people assigning me a political party based on what they read.
I open fire at all parties, including the one I tend to side more with.
It’s absolutely ridiculous this became an issue, yes.
