Booked for Theft and Grave Affairs are available in Paperback format over at Amazon. In case you missed it, Grave Affairs is available at all major retailers in audiobook edition. (Some did, so it bears mentioning again.)
A Light in the Dark (Audrey Greene) is currently processing at the audiobook distributors. This process can take 1-5 weeks depending on the mood of the server squirrels. You can currently acquire A Light in the Dark over at Kobo. The other vendors are pending.
As a reminder: the Patreon Store received all audiobook versions several weeks ahead of retail release. I am paid something like 85% royalties from the Patreon Store, where I’m only paid anywhere between 20-45% royalties elsewhere.
By using the Patreon store first, I earn enough back to continue reliably producing audiobooks. (That difference in royalty rate REALLY matters.) I do audiobooks for accessibility. While I love all y’all who listen while driving and cleaning and however you like to consume your books, I’m doing it for those who cannot read text anymore.
It often takes several years to earn back from a title, and most audiobooks I have produced have not made profit. (Because I’m not doing them for profit. I’m doing them for accessibility.)
As such, please trash can any complaints about the Patreon store receiving the books first. The extra royalties truly matter to make certain I keep the losses tolerable. (If the losses become intolerable, that means I have to slow production rate / stop bringing older novels into audiobook production.)
In short, I’m the one dishing out the $3,000 to $5,000 extra it costs to bring an audiobook to market, and at least this way, they go to retail having paid $700-$1,000 of the bill after their stint over at the Patreon store.
And no, the audiobooks really do not make that much at retail. Most of my audience consumes their media as eBook.
So, here’s your reminder that if you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes, and ultimately, I’m the one investing in bringing the audiobooks to market.
Because every single bill for production of an audiobook is paid long before it reaches the Patreon Store.
Please stop fucking around when it comes to the audiobooks. Nobody wants to find out in this situation. If you don’t want to have patience, then you can either a: be a cindercorn or spicy pony with bite (which helps fund audiobooks), b: buy from the patreon store, or c: be happy when the audiobooks do make it to market.
Please skip the complaining. It is not going to get you what you want faster, and if anything, it slows the whole process down.
Thank you for your understanding!
What audiobooks are currently in production?
- Partner in Crime (GP Robbins)
- Experimental Voyage (RJ Blain)
- Life-Debt (RJ Blain)
If it is not on this list it is not currently in production, and once these books are out of production and in proofreading, new books will take their place. (Because my narrators, shocker, can only do one book at a time.)
Happy reading and listening!
I really appreciate that you think about accessibility! My 80 yr old mother gets eye injections for macular degeneration. My own hearing is probably going to go out at some point, but for now AirPods are enough to make a world of difference. I don’t usually use audiobooks because I read faster than people talk. But since I already walk around with speakers in my ears, I just went over and got my favorite MRC in thanks.
Thank you for making Grave Affairs and Booked for Theft accessible in print, and for announcing it! I just ordered both
So since I pay for Kobo+ I wait until they come out there to listen. I appreciate that audiobooks as reading really tiring on the eyes these days. I also use audiobooks to help me sleep
The voices in the background really works for me. Keep producing them as long as you can.
I listened to A Light in the Dark when in dropped on Tuesday. It’s funny how listening seems to make some of the plot stand out. Kiera is a very good narrator and does a good job on your novels.
